Information we collect
- Your bookmarks — titles, URLs, and folder structure — read and written through Chrome's bookmarks API to build the workspaces, folders, and pins you organize.
- Open tab titles and URLs, used to let you save the current tab or jump to a tab that's already open.
- Site icons, shown next to each bookmark using Chrome's built-in favicon cache.
None of the above leaves your device — Shelf reads and writes this data locally, using Chrome's own browser APIs.
What Shelf does not do
- No bookmarks, tab data, or usage events are transmitted to any server.
- No browsing history, analytics, or telemetry is collected.
- No account, sign-in, or personal data is required.
- No data is sold, shared, or used for advertising or profiling.
Third-party services
None. Shelf does not call any external server or AI service — all processing happens locally in your browser using the packaged extension code.
Data storage and retention
Workspace layout, folder structure, and pins are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's bookmarks and storage APIs. Uninstalling Shelf removes this data from the extension; your underlying Chrome bookmarks are unaffected.
Permissions
bookmarks— read and organize your existing bookmarks into the workspaces and folders you create.favicon— show each bookmark's site icon using Chrome's local favicon cache, without a network request.storage— save workspace layout, pins, and preferences locally in your browser.tabs— read the current tab's title and URL so you can save it, and switch to a tab that's already open.tabGroups— keep workspaces in sync with your browser's tab groups.
International users
Shelf processes everything locally in your browser, so no data about you crosses any border in the first place — there is nothing for us to transfer or store on servers in any jurisdiction.
Children's privacy
Shelf is not directed at children under 13, and since it collects no personal data, it does not knowingly process data from them.
